Their business has grown steadily over the last few years and as such their structure is evolving. Turnover in the North is circa £30m largely from frameworks and water–related contracts and they are now seeking to appoint a Business Development Manager to further grow the business in more diverse civils markets. The Business Development Manager will have a significant strategic input to the Regional Business Plan from which they will be expected to develop a Marketing Plan against which performance can be measured. The existing turnover has been secured predominantly in the Water and Power sectors. It is envisaged that new opportunities will be sourced in other sectors and a significant proportion at a value below the OJEU threshold. The geography of the region is a challenge encompassing as it does the central belt of Scotland and Northern England. With a nominal base in Warrington it is envisaged that the Business Development Manager will spend a significant proportion of the working week ‘on the road’ meeting potential Clients and developing contacts. The BDM will also be responsible for the pre-qualification process and will be supported by a Marketing Assistant. In the South they are looking to appoint a Business Development Manager to oversee all ‘front end’ activities within the business including the proposals team and assist in the future development of the business. The focus in the future will be to chase broader civil engineering jobs and JVs rather than frameworks. The regional office in the South has been as large as £45 million in turnover at the peak of the last AMP frameworks and is now at approx £17 million It covers a wide range of sectors and over the last 5 years has worked with a number of major clients providing the foundations for growth back up to £45/50 million. There are tremendous opportunities to grow the southern business and having recently secured a substantial framework this will contribute approx £20m pa over the next few years. The challenge therefore is to build non water related civil engineering around this contract and more joint ventures within their peer group which will enable them to pursue larger and more complex projects.
